Kanela Breakfast Club

amazing foods.

the lowdown:

    • ★★★★ yummmmy!
    • $$ (~$15 a person)
    • casual
    • good for twos and fours
    • patio, serves booze
    • neighborhood: lakeview

okay these are my requirements for an amazing, better-than-your-average-spot brunch:

-booze. check – mimosas, bloodies be here.
-great coffee. check – julius meinl. greek frappes? yes.
-menu: both savory and sweet options. check. unique twists on original breakfast staples? check. and specials. woot.
-bonuses: great juice options if that floats your boat.

i’m a fan of the benedict – pork belly with brussel sprouts. so delicious. (i haven’t ventured away from it, just tried my friends food…)

pork belly benedict: slow roasted pork belly + brussel sprouts + poached eggs +
dried cranberries + house hollandaise + english muffin

chorizo: eggs over easy + avocado + chihuahua cheese + salsa + jalapeno +
cilantro + sour cream + toast

why not five stars you ask? no, it’s not the wait. that just happens in chicago at brunchtime.
service. had to wait for silverware. coffee sometimes comes with food, not beforehand. etc. it’s hit and miss. last visit, i wasn’t waited on for 5 minutes because “we looked like the couple that just left.” oh yes, that couple was asian. thanks. we do all look the same.

  1. Benedicts are nearly impossible to resist, and pork belly must take it over the top!
