after a long day of work and feeling lazy, but don’t want fast food or having to go out to eat, i *gasp* use jarred pasta sauce.

here’s how to fancify it up so that it’s tasty and almost like homemade.

  • add meat. brown up some turkey or ground beef with onions and garlic before you throw some sauce in a pan to hearty it up.
  • vegetables. i always add in a frozen veggie the last few minutes as the pasta cooks. spinach, broccoli, whatever you’ve got – save a pot to wash and just throw it in with pasta to cook! chop up some fresh ones too, if you’ve got them. mushrooms, bell peppers, anything goes!
  • sauces & seasonings. use whatever you buy, and add in some fresh garlic, red pepper flakes, dried oregano, etc. to freshen it up. if you’ve got some red wine around, a splash helps too!
  • cheese. i love to throw in goat cheese or mozzarella as it cooks to thicken it up and add richness and depth, add parmesan when finished on top if you wish.
