i got a fancy new camera, and as i venture into the world of amateur photography i’m going to try to make this blog as visually pleasing as possible, with more photos and less words. especially for the reviews.
i’ll tell you about the place in a what/where/why format, and you can see for yourself what you think. i have always thought star ratings were silly – especially when experiences can be changed by either my mood or a server’s, a busy night, or a dish being off just once. and you know what, sometimes i’m just plain hangry even when i’m trying to be objective.
also, if you do follow you have been seeing a lot of craft beer on here. my man & i have figured out our relationship: i take care of food, he takes care of drinks. so, if you’re a big fan of beer, you can read his reviews/follow him on beeradvocate.com here.
let me know what you think and if you have any feedback/thoughts/musings. cheers!
i come from a family of eaters. we’re from texas and the portions are not small. my mom spoiled us – never eating at chain restaurants, cooking everything from scratch, and oh, did i mention she’s a certified Le Cordon Bleu pastry chef? good thing i’m asian and my metabolism hasn’t found me yet.
anyways, i moved to chicago and found that in one city good food can be found in a cheap dive or a swanky world famous restaurant. and, i finally have roommates and someone to cook for! i came to chitown to work at groupon; hence my talent to find and know a gazillion places to eat and try everywhere.
i’m not claiming to be anyone who knows anything at all – i like food, i’m just a foodie and i have a lot of thoughts. i only started cooking recently and not under my mother’s wing, only over the phone. but according to friends that i’m sharing with, i’m not too shabby? so not saying listen to me, but also not really saying that you shouldn’t either. see for yourselves!
check out some Chicago eats or some cheats and recipes to try out. and tell me where to go and what you’d like to see!
oh! my restaurant rankings are as follows:
★ 1 star: this place should not serve food or be open.
★★ 2 stars: meh. i would only go back if i was forced, plans were already made, etc.
★★★ 3 stars: good. i would go back, but not out of my way.
★★★★ 4 stars: i’m going back. i probably have already been back.
★★★★★ 5 stars: i’m probably going back tomorrow. and telling all my friends. and their dogs.
$: cheap! usually you can grab something under $10
$$: not too bad. typically $10-30, and i’ll tell you whether it’s per plate or couple.
$$$: spendy, above $40
$$$$: splurge. get your wallets ready, or wait for a special occasion. $60+
